Overview
A materials research lab wanted its work to look as advanced as it is. We art-directed a 3D world of chrome and light, and built a site where every page feels like a lab sample.
The challenge
Norra Labs develops advanced surface coatings for industry, from scratch-resistant finishes to materials that manage heat. The science is impressive, but the old website relied on stock photos of people in lab coats and pages of dense technical copy. Investors, engineers and partners all struggled to see what made Norra different.
The lab wanted its work to look as advanced as it really is, and needed a site that could explain complex research to very different audiences.
Our approach
Instead of showing people, we decided to show the material. Norra’s coatings change how light behaves on a surface, so light became our main tool. We built a 3D art direction around chrome, glass and reflection that feels like looking at a lab sample under perfect studio lighting.
Art direction
We created a library of 3D scenes, each tied to a research area. Highly reflective chrome represents protection, frosted glass represents thermal control and warm orange light marks the moments where Norra’s technology makes the difference. Every render follows the same lighting setup, so the series feels like one body of work.
Identity refresh
We kept the existing name and simplified everything around it. A strict grid, a precise sans serif and a monospace for data give the brand a calm, scientific feel that lets the imagery lead.
Website
Each research area has its own page with a rotating 3D sample, a short plain language summary and a deeper technical section for engineers. Clear calls to action route investors, partners and job seekers to the right person.
What we delivered
3D art direction and render library
Identity refresh and typography system
Website design and build in Framer
Investor deck and trade show templates
Image guidelines for future research releases
The result
Norra now presents its research with one confident visual language, from investor meetings to trade show walls. The website turns complex science into something people want to explore.
New research can be added in a day: render the sample with the shared lighting setup, write the summary and publish it through the CMS.
